Everyone has different types of hair. That's part
of what makes life exciting. We would all be boring if we were
the same. The main thing about hair is that you must make sure
that you are presentable. It depends on what style of show/performance
you are doing as to what hair style you are going to use.
A bun, pony tail, or a braid are
the simplist styles. Make sure you use hair spray to make your
heads slick and shiney AFTER you finish your style. If you can
use a curling iron, just drag it across your hair (when the iron
is hot and you have just sprayed your hair with hair spray) like
a comb. This will help LOCK in the style and give you that shiney
look. Be careful not to burn yourself OF COURSE.
Don't forget, hair nets are not just
for the ladies in the cafeteria. Just make sure that you use the
color that is most close to you hair color. They are very cheap
and reusable if you are careful. You can get them at most grocery
stores in the beauty section. They can help when you are using
a bun and sometimes you need to use more than one.
When you use hair pins, bobby pins,
or rubber bands, make sure that they can't be seen from the audience.
Nothing is worse than someone in a beautiful outfit with a neon
lime green scrunchie in their hair. Try to stay away from clips
and barrettes. They can scratch yourself as well as others and
they usually can be seen from a distance as well.
There is a fine line between a controlled
wild hair style and just a plain rat's nest. You must work with
your hair. Even when you are going for a wild look, there has
to be some work and thought in it. Just make sure you are acheiving
the look your instructor is after before you go in front of an
audience. The audience is RARELY kind and they NEVER forget.
There are plenty of great new products
on the market to use, but just remember, you are going to sweat:
so simple is the best. There are products for all hair types.
Just ask your Hair Designer.
If you have "tendrils"
(you know, those cute curlies that hang on your temples), try
puting them in a curl that is held by a bobby pin on your head.
Don't take them out until its time to perform. That way, the curl
can't come out.
You know your own hair and how it
behaves....just make sure it behaves with manners in public.
